The task

Each test consists of 12 puzzle pieces: 9 come from one original image cut into a 3×3 grid and 3 are distractors (pieces from other images, or transformed, rotated or otherwise modified pieces). Pieces are either plain rectangles or jigsaw-shaped pieces with tabs and holes.

The contestant must choose the 9 correct pieces and order them by grid position (0 to 8, left to right and top to bottom). Training and validation sets include the correct order (target_0 … target_8) and the distractors (distractor_0 … distractor_2).

puzzle_dataset.zip with train/, val/ and test/ folders, each holding a CSV and a samples/ directory with 12 PNG pieces per sample; train.csv and val.csv include target and distractor columns. Archive of 2,387,959,814 bytes.
You submit
submission.csv with sampleID, subtaskID (1) and piece_00 … piece_08 (file names of the chosen pieces in grid order).
Scoring
Per test: 40 × selection_score + 60 × arrangement_score, where selection_score = correct pieces chosen / 9 (0 if fewer than 7 are correct) and arrangement_score = pieces in the exact position / 9; final score is the mean over tests.

  • No internet access; only preinstalled offline resources (NLTK, spaCy en_core_web_sm, scikit-learn, Gensim glove-wiki-gigaword-50, fastText without pretrained models, and the Hugging Face models distilbert-base-uncased, MoritzLaurer DeBERTa-v3-large-mnli-fever-anli-ling-wanli, roberta-large-mnli, all-MiniLM-L6-v2 and whisper-small)
  • A GPU Jupyter environment hosted by UVT was provided during the tests
  • Problem statements unlocked with a password handed out in the room
